Far Infrared Sauna

Far infrared sauna therapy uses gentle, penetrating light, not hot air, to warm your body directly from within. Unlike a traditional sauna, which heats the room around you, far infrared heat is absorbed by water molecules in your tissue, so you sweat more deeply at a lower, more comfortable temperature.

At Next Health, our far infrared sauna sessions are available at our Ashburn, VA, location as part of a personalized wellness plan built around your labs and health goals.

How Far Infrared Sauna Works

Far infrared is a wavelength of light that sits just beyond what the human eye can see. Your body absorbs it efficiently, so instead of warming the air around you, the heat travels directly into your skin and soft tissue. This is why infrared saunas typically run at a lower temperature (around 120–140°F) than traditional saunas (150–195°F), yet still produce a deep, vigorous sweat.

This deeper heat penetration is also associated with heat shock protein activation, a natural cellular response to heat stress that supports the body’s repair processes.

Benefits of Far Infrared Sauna

Supports the Body’s Natural Processes: Sweating and improved circulation are part of the body’s normal physiological response to heat, which some patients find supports their overall wellness routine.

Improves Circulation: The heat causes blood vessels to dilate, which can enhance blood flow and oxygen delivery to tissues.

Eases Pain and Inflammation: Many patients use infrared sauna sessions to help manage joint pain, muscle soreness, and general inflammation.

Raises Core Body Temperature: This mimics the cardiovascular response of light exercise, similar to how your body reacts during moderate physical activity.

Promotes Relaxation: The gentle, steady heat can help lower stress and support better sleep quality.

Individual results vary. Far infrared sauna is a wellness therapy, not a treatment for any specific disease; always discuss your health history with our clinical team before starting.

Who is a Good Candidate?

  • Individuals looking to support their body’s natural detoxification pathways
  • Competitive athletes wanting to support muscle recovery
  • People experiencing joint pain, stiffness, or inflammation
  • Anyone looking to add a relaxing, low-impact wellness ritual to their routine

Is Far Infrared Sauna Safe for Everyone?

Far infrared sauna is well tolerated by most healthy adults, but it isn’t right for everyone. You should consult Dr. Habib or your physician before booking a session if you:

  • Are pregnant
  • Have a heart condition, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or a recent cardiac event
  • Are currently ill or running a fever
  • Take medications that affect blood pressure, blood thinning, or heat regulation
  • Have a chronic medical condition you’re currently being treated for

Staying well-hydrated before and after your session is important for everyone.

How to Prepare and What to Expect

Hydrate well before you arrive: Drink plenty of fluids before your session. Staying hydrated beforehand helps your body handle the heat comfortably.

Wear loose, comfortable clothing: Light, breathable clothing works best. A private shower is available on-site, so feel free to bring a change of clothes for afterward.

Session length: Your sauna session runs about 15 to 20 minutes for first-time clients, not including shower time. Session length may be adjusted after your initial visit based on comfort and tolerance.

We’ll check in on your health history first: Before your first session, our team will review your health history to make sure far infrared sauna is a safe and good fit for you.

Rinse off afterward: A quick shower after your session helps you feel refreshed and comfortable before you head out.
