Microneedling

Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment that stimulates your skin’s own collagen and elastin production to improve texture, tone, and firmness, without surgery or significant downtime. At Next Health, we use the SkinPen Precision System, the first and only FDA-cleared microneedling device, available at both our Ashburn, VA and Bethesda, MD locations.

Microneedling

What Is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a minimally invasive skin treatment that uses fine, sterile needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin’s surface. This triggers the body’s natural wound-healing response, which includes new collagen and elastin production. As the skin repairs itself, texture, tone, and firmness gradually improve over the following weeks.

At Next Health, we use the SkinPen Precision System, the first and only FDA-cleared microneedling device.1 SkinPen uses a single-use, sterile needle cartridge with a BioSheath barrier to prevent cross-contamination between treatments, and its needle depth can be adjusted to match each patient’s skin concern and treatment area.

How Microneedling Works

Each session uses a handheld device to create thousands of microscopic channels in the skin. These micro-injuries prompt the body to release growth factors and begin producing fresh collagen and elastin, the two proteins responsible for skin structure and elasticity. Results build progressively: new collagen continues to mature for several weeks after each session, which is why microneedling is typically done as a series rather than a single visit.

What Microneedling Can Improve

What Microneedling Can Improve

Microneedling is commonly used to address:

  • Acne scars, including rolling and shallow boxcar scarring
  • Fine lines and wrinkles, including neck wrinkles
  • Uneven skin texture and enlarged pores
  • Overall skin tone and radiance

SkinPen is FDA-cleared specifically for improving the appearance of facial acne scars in patients 22 and older, and for improving the appearance of neck wrinkles.1

How Many Sessions Are Needed

Most patients see initial improvement within three sessions, spaced about four to six weeks apart. Deeper or more extensive acne scarring may benefit from five to six sessions. Dr. Habib and the Next Health team will recommend a session plan based on your skin type, goals, and the concerns identified during your consultation.

What to Expect: Downtime and Recovery

Microneedling sessions typically take 30 to 60 minutes. Because the treatment is minimally invasive, most patients experience only mild redness for a day or two, with little to no true downtime. Patients are advised to avoid direct sun exposure for 24 hours before and 72 hours after treatment to support healing and protect results.

Microneedling at Our Ashburn, VA and Bethesda, MD, Locations

Next Health offers SkinPen microneedling at both our Ashburn, VA and Bethesda, MD locations, as part of our broader approach to skin health within a longevity-focused care model. Your consultation will also look at how factors like nutrition, hormone balance, and overall health may be affecting your skin, so your treatment plan fits your goals as a whole, not just the surface.

Hit Reset on Your Skin

When it comes to beautiful skin, the smallest things can make the biggest difference. In as few as three sessions, microneedling may improve your complexion, improve the appearance of wrinkles on the neck, and improve the appearance of acne scars.1

This will reveal smooth, healthy skin that glows from within.

Frequently Asked Questions About Microneedling

Most patients describe mild discomfort rather than pain. A topical numbing cream is applied before treatment to keep the procedure comfortable.

Microneedling uses fine needles to trigger natural collagen production without heat, making it suitable for all skin tones with minimal downtime. Laser resurfacing uses light energy and may involve more downtime depending on the intensity used. Our laser skin resurfacing page has more detail on that option.

Some improvement in skin texture may be visible within a few weeks of the first session, with continued improvement over the following months as new collagen matures. Full results are typically seen after completing a recommended series.

SkinPen is FDA-cleared for use on all skin types and tones, which sets it apart from many laser-based treatments that carry more risk for deeper skin tones.

Yes. Many patients pair microneedling with an ongoing skin care management plan to maintain and extend results between sessions.

The best way to find out is a consultation, where we assess your skin, goals, and health history to recommend the right treatment and session plan.
